Junggu Begins Full-Scale Planning for Seoul Baek Hospital Comprehensive Medical Facility

Jung-gu (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) has decided to draft an urban planning facility designation plan for the Seoul Baek Hospital site (85, Jeodong 2-ga, Jung-gu) as a comprehensive medical facility and submit it to Seoul City by November.

On the 3rd, the district finalized the "Seoul Baek Hospital Urban Planning Facility (Comprehensive Medical Facility) Designation Draft Promotion Plan" containing these details and began the related procedures. Previously, at a press conference marking his first anniversary in office on the 22nd of last month, Mayor Kim Gil-seong stated, "I judged that it is appropriate to proceed with the urban planning facility designation and instructed to follow the procedures."

Jung-gu’s swift action is based on the judgment that Seoul Baek Hospital, as the only university hospital in the area and an infectious disease-dedicated hospital, must continue its social role and responsibility to minimize medical service gaps and respond promptly in times of crisis, thereby safeguarding residents' lives.

The district will first conduct an urban planning facility designation service contract to investigate basic conditions and review surrounding impacts. At the same time, it will establish a close cooperation system with Seoul City and Baek Hospital to jointly explore support measures from an urban planning perspective.

Furthermore, through public discussions including gathering opinions from residents and urban living area inhabitants, the district plans to sufficiently build consensus on the necessity of maintaining comprehensive medical functions within the city center.

Seoul City has already expressed its willingness to promptly proceed with related procedures such as the Urban Planning Committee review once Jung-gu submits the Seoul Baek Hospital urban planning facility (comprehensive medical facility) designation plan.

In line with this, Jung-gu aims to complete the urban planning facility designation within the year by quickly going through procedures such as public inspection notices and advisory consultations with the district urban planning committee, then submitting the designation plan to Seoul City by November. Although the process typically takes more than six months, the district intends to accelerate it as much as possible.

Mayor Kim Gil-seong of Jung-gu said, "Although Seoul Baek Hospital has decided to close, medical services will not be immediately discontinued. We will strive to minimize medical service gaps and resident inconvenience through prompt urban planning groundwork and close cooperation with other medical institutions."
