Jung Jong-bok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, expressed his determination to "not lose the original intention and create a new future for Gijang" on the occasion of his first anniversary in office.
Mayor Jung, without holding a separate first anniversary commemorative event, reviewed the achievements of the past year and announced the policy direction for the next three years of county administration to about 400 employees at the "2023 Second Half Regular Assembly" held at Chaseong Art Hall at 9 a.m. in March.
Mayor Jung stated that despite difficult circumstances over the past year since the launch of the 8th popularly elected term, Gijang-gun objectively verified its potential for sustainable development and resilience by achieving various external awards and accomplishments, and he expressed deep gratitude to the employees who worked hard together to lead the county administration.
He also recalled his inaugural speech from a year ago, where he pledged to "definitely keep promises made to the residents," encouraging the ongoing projects to be pushed forward more vigorously and urging employees to pool their wisdom to steadily carry out projects currently in the planning stage.
Mayor Jung said, "During the remaining three years of the 8th popularly elected term, I will devote all my energy to creating a new future for Gijang without losing the original intention, aiming to build a 'Happy City for All,' a 'Converged Future City,' a 'Sustainable Communication City,' and a 'Well-connected Transportation City.'"
Jeong Jong-bok, the head of Gijang County, is delivering a commemorative speech for the first anniversary of his inauguration at the regular ordinance meeting in the second half of the year.
Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected term, Gijang-gun has set the county administration vision as "A City Embracing Happiness, Opening the Future," and is promoting various pending and pledged projects to improve residents' quality of life and achieve sustainable growth and development.
First, a policy demand survey was conducted targeting Gijang residents to determine the desired direction of county administration and policy priorities, which were then reflected in the administration. Policies for socially high-risk groups and marginalized communities, such as the establishment of a dedicated team for single-person households, have been actively pursued.
In addition, through close cooperation and communication with the central government, Busan City, and local political circles, the long-awaited urban railway Jeonggwan Line, a cherished project of the residents, has been brought to the stage of a preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Projects to expand transportation infrastructure are also being actively promoted, including ongoing consultations with related agencies to attract the KTX-Eum Station and conducting related research for the installation of a bus transfer center in Jeonggwan New Town.
Furthermore, efforts are being made to expand the foundation for future innovative growth industries that will drive Gijang-gun's growth, such as the early completion of the Radiation Medical-Science Convergence Cluster and the promotion of smart agriculture and fisheries modernization projects.
