Daegu Jung-gu Office Calls for 15 Mural Submissions for Kim Gwang-seok Street... Prize Money Up to 6 Million Won

Jung-gu, Daegu City is holding a contest for 15 mural artworks for the ‘Kim Kwang-seok Redrawing Street, Renew Festa’ to boost the boom of Kim Kwang-seok Street.


The Renew Festa project, funded with 200 million KRW from pure district funds, plans to select mural artworks through a contest for the renewal of the existing small-scale Kim Kwang-seok Street murals, aiming to revitalize tourism on Kim Kwang-seok Street by linking artistic work with festivals as new tourism content.

This mural artwork contest will select works that reflect the spatial characteristics and identity of Kim Kwang-seok Street, based on his life and music, to harmonize with existing artworks.


An official from Daegu Jung-gu Office said, “The Renew Festa project plans to replace 15 murals out of the 41 murals painted on Kim Kwang-seok Street that have become worn out, less preferred, and do not fit the atmosphere.”


Up to 13 works will be selected from professional artists, with support and prize money of 6 million KRW for 2 three-dimensional murals and 4 million KRW for 11 general murals. Additionally, 2 murals will be selected through an idea contest open to the general public, with each receiving a prize of 200,000 KRW. The size of the artworks is 5.4m wide by 2.7m high, and applications will be accepted over two days, on the 24th and 25th.


The selected artworks from this contest will be painted on Kim Kwang-seok Street in September, and an opening ceremony along with various side events will be held over two days from October 14 to 15.


Ryu Gyu-ha, head of Daegu Jung-gu Office, said, “With the holding of the Kim Kwang-seok Redrawing Street Renew Festa project, we hope to elevate the status of the mural artworks on Kim Kwang-seok Street and that citizens and tourists visiting the street will create more diverse memories.”
