Lloris, Frequent Injuries · Kane, Munich Love Call
Fansite "Son Heung-min Top Candidate for Captain"
'Son-Sational' Son Heung-min has emerged as the top candidate for Tottenham's captaincy in the new season amid transfer rumors surrounding Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane.
Currently, Tottenham's captain is 36-year-old veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Having worn the 'captain's armband' since 2015, Lloris has played 447 matches over 11 seasons exclusively for Tottenham.
However, as injuries have become more frequent, Lloris has often entrusted the captaincy to Kane, and there are growing expectations that he might leave the team during this summer's transfer window.
Kane, who has also worn the captain's armband in place of Lloris, is reportedly receiving interest from the prestigious German Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. The possibility of him leaving the team in the new season is increasing.
In response, Tottenham fan site 'Spurs Web' selected five candidates who could take on the captaincy if both Lloris and Kane transfer out, announcing the list on their homepage on the 1st (Korean time). The first candidate mentioned was Son Heung-min.
Spurs Web explained, "Although Son Heung-min had a somewhat underwhelming last season, he is still considered the second-best player at Tottenham after Kane. Son is at the heart of everything Tottenham does," adding, "Having played for Tottenham since 2015, he is one of the longest-serving players on the team and is loved by the fans."
They also added, "As the captain of the South Korean national team, Son's experience on the international stage would be beneficial to the team."
Besides Son Heung-min, Spurs Web included Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Eric Dier among the candidates.
