'Sustainable Nutrition for Future Food Security' ... 1st Anniversary of Minseon 8th Term, County Governor O Dochang O Do-chang, the governor of Yeongyang County, who says he will do his best to prepare future food sources and create sustainable nutrition.

Governor Oh has laid the foundation for the direction of the 8th elected military administration over the past year under the goal of ‘Happy Change, Hopeful Yeongyang,’ and has been doing his best alongside the residents by traveling throughout Yeongyang to create a happy Yeongyang.

First, over the past year, Governor Oh united administrative power and the hearts of the residents to attract a pumped-storage power plant, forming a county-wide citizens’ attraction committee and declaring Yeongyang County’s will to survive. He created a comfortable farming environment through measures such as guaranteeing the highest price for red chili peppers, reducing farmers’ self-pay for crop disaster insurance, and providing farmers’ allowances. He also established pleasant living conditions through urban regeneration projects, Saetteul Village projects, and renewable energy convergence projects.

With the expansion of transportation infrastructure long desired by residents, including the alignment improvement of National Road No. 31, the improvement project of the dangerous road on Maryeongsanhaero, expansion, paving, and alignment improvement of local roads, and the construction of a four-lane gateway road in Yeongyang-eup, internal and external accessibility was dramatically improved. To maximize the differentiated charm of Yeongyang tourism, projects such as the premium development of the Yeongyang Birch Forest tourist site, the creation of the Yeongyang Night Sky Clean Eco Village, and the premium development of the International Dark Sky Reserve Starlight Ecotourism were promoted, adding depth to tourism content.

Also, the successful hosting of the 2022 Hot Festival generated annual sales of 3 billion KRW, and the Yeongyang Wild Vegetable Festival was selected as the best festival in Gyeongbuk in 2023, attracting 120,000 visitors and creating an economic ripple effect of 6 billion KRW.

Building on the achievements of the first year of the 8th elected administration, future plans include continuing the commitment to attract public institutions to overcome the risk of extinction, such as the establishment of Yeongyang Fire Station, attraction of correctional facilities, attraction of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service Yeongyang Office, and attraction of the National Forest Management Office.

Through the Dongburi Rural Space Maintenance Project, the Badaedeul Residential Complex Infrastructure Project, and the Dongbucheon Urban Section Maintenance Project, the highest residential satisfaction will be realized. Additionally, a more stable farming environment will be created through the Hwamae District Rural Water System Reorganization Project, designation of a leafy vegetable special zone and creation of a specialized complex, construction of a simple leafy vegetable collection center, and establishment of a southern rural job center.

Moreover, the early construction of the North-South 9-axis expressway, establishment of the East-West railway network, and tunnel project on the Yeongyang entry section of National Road No. 31 will satisfy residents’ thirst for transportation networks. The Yeongyang Birch Forest Healing Hub Project, attraction of the Birch Forest Experience Center, and designation of Janggu-megi Wetland as a protected wetland have prepared Yeongyang County to take a step forward as a mecca of ecotourism.

Governor O Do-chang said, “I have been given the solemn command of the residents and the mission to complete the military administration goal of ‘Happy Change, Hopeful Yeongyang.’ Although the remaining time of the 8th elected administration is three years, I will devote all my passion with a sincere heart to lay the foundation for Yeongyang County’s future 100 years.”
