Nowon-gu Mayor Oh Seung-rok Inspects Flooded Areas on the First Day of the 1st Year of the 8th Civil Term

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, began the schedule for the 1st anniversary of the 8th elected term on the morning of the 1st by visiting last year's flood-damaged sites.

With the start of the rainy season, the purpose was to inspect the damage sites from last year and check the restoration status to prevent casualties and property damage caused by heavy rain.

Mayor Oh first visited Villa 00 in Sanggye 1-dong to check the underground parking lot that was flooded three times last year and inspected the drainage channels near the villa's vegetable garden. At that time, urgent measures such as dredging the sewage pipes and pumping were taken due to surface water inflow around Suraksan Mountain, but the sewage pipes lost their function because of a large amount of stones, soil, and fallen leaves flowing in from nearby forest areas.

The district installed temporary drainage channels in the nearby vegetable garden and floodgates at the entrance of the underground parking lot as emergency measures. Afterwards, in close consultation with related departments of Seoul City, the cause of flooding was analyzed, and 500 million KRW from the Disaster Management Fund was secured to install sewage pipes (70m) and U-shaped drainage channels (30m), thereby eliminating the flooding factors.

Additionally, due to the characteristics of Villa 00 located at the foot of Suraksan Mountain, slope maintenance was carried out to prevent landslides by installing one sedimentation basin and a 58m stone channel above the villa.

This year, using 200 million KRW from the Disaster Management Fund, the plan is to fundamentally block flood damage by July 31 through slope foot barriers, side ditch drainage pipe installation, and tree planting to prevent surface water inflow and soil runoff into the sewage pipes.

Afterwards, the flood-vulnerable site near Cheongwansa Temple in Sanggye 3 and 4-dong was visited. This site was inspected on the first day of the 8th elected term last year, and the restoration status nearing completion was carefully reviewed during this revisit.

At this location, during last year's flood, approximately 47m of mesh fence and 157㎡ of slope foot barriers were urgently installed on the slope above Cheongwansa Temple, completing the landslide prevention project in July 2022. This year, the damage restoration project is nearing completion with two collection wells and drainage pipes installed and currently curing.

Meanwhile, the district has organized 13 task forces under the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters led by the mayor, operating a 24-hour emergency contact system in response to weather changes. To ensure rapid disaster response, SNS communication rooms are operated effectively, creating communication channels for each situation to share information and countermeasures. Additionally, a public-private contact network has been established for a total of 590 rainwater inlet managers, conducting regular patrols and rapid responses to thoroughly prepare for flood damage.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, said, “Protecting the lives and property of residents is the most important responsibility of the mayor,” adding, “We will carefully inspect every corner of the neighborhood and make every effort to make Nowon safe from flood damage through prompt communication and response systems.”
