Meeting on June 14 between Dobong-gu Mayor and Minister of Environment Regarding Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment
Conveyed the Necessity of Passing Under the National Park for Ui~Banghak Light Rail and Minimizing Impact, Expressed Agreement
Oh Eon-seok, Dobong-gu Mayor: "The Passage of This Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment Is the Result of Proactive On-site Administration"
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced on June 30 that the strategic environmental impact assessment for the Ui~Banghak Light Rail has been passed.
The strategic environmental impact assessment is a report that records the impact on the surrounding environment caused by the construction of the Ui~Banghak line. Last December, the Ministry of Environment rejected the strategic environmental impact assessment for the extension of the Uisinseol Line passing under the national park, stating that it was not an essential facility allowed to pass through the national park and insisted on bypassing the national park for environmental conservation reasons, causing difficulties.
However, on June 14, Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok met with the Minister of Environment and conveyed concerns about the bypass route proposed by the Ministry of Environment, including collective complaints due to passing under apartment complexes and Geumgangsa and Beopjongsa Temples, non-utilization of existing junctions, and derailment risks due to sharp curves. He requested the Ministry's cooperation to allow the original strategic environmental impact assessment to pass, considering the inevitability of passing under Bukhansan National Park. (Photo)
Subsequently, on June 30, the strategic environmental impact assessment for the Ui~Banghak Light Rail was passed, removing a major obstacle to project promotion. The total project cost negotiation will proceed, followed by approval and announcement of the basic plan by the end of this year, and construction is scheduled to begin after basic and detailed design in 2024.
Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok said, "I believe the passage of the Ui~Banghak Light Rail strategic environmental impact assessment is the result of proactive on-site administration, and I will continue to work to resolve local pending projects."
