Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, Conducts Repeated Inspections to Prepare for Summer Safety Accidents

Visits Sites Installing Flood Barriers for Vulnerable Semi-basement Households

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, announced that he has undertaken inspections to prepare for potential safety accidents during the summer season.

With record-breaking heatwaves and heavy rains expected this summer due to abnormal climate conditions, the district checked semi-basement households vulnerable in housing and neighborhood water play areas to identify any safety weaknesses.

First, he visited sites where flood barriers are being installed for vulnerable semi-basement households. Mayor Oh carefully examined the installation status of flood barriers for semi-basement households and once again instructed officials to encourage installation applications from households without barriers.

Last year, the district completed the installation of flood prevention facilities (backflow prevention devices, flood barriers) for a total of 303 households. Additionally, for 81 semi-basement households that suffered flood damage last year, responsible officials personally visited and persuaded homeowners, achieving a 100% completion rate for flood prevention facility installation applications.

Next, he sequentially visited five neighborhood water play areas within parks (Gongneung-dong Park, Hannae Park, Deulgukhwa Children's Park, Netiul Park, Danggogae Park) that will open from July 1, inspecting the facilities. With the end of COVID-19, a sharp increase in water play area users is expected, prompting efforts to prevent safety accidents.

Mayor Oh checked movement routes, pre-training for first aid, water quality management, and other conditions to ensure that everyone from children to adults can safely enjoy water play. The district plans to operate water play areas flawlessly by deploying at least four safety personnel per site and establishing an emergency contact system to prevent any accidents.
