Former Manchester City Player 'Baengjameng Mengdi'
Shocking testimony has emerged in the court case dealing with allegations of sexual assault against Benjamin Mendy, who played for English professional football club Manchester City (Man City).
On the 30th (Korean time), the British BBC reported, "During the trial held at Chester Crown Court in the UK, testimony revealed that Mendy said to the victim after raping her, 'It's okay, I've slept with 10,000 people.'
Benjamin Mendy joined Manchester City ahead of the 2018-2019 season for a then-record transfer fee of ?52 million (approximately 86.3 billion KRW), making him the most expensive left-back at the time. However, he mainly played as a substitute at Manchester City and eventually left the team after becoming a suspect in a sexual offense case. [Photo by AFP·Yonhap News]
The 28-year-old Mendy is accused of raping a 24-year-old woman at his home in Mottram, Cheshire, in October 2020, as well as attempting to rape a 29-year-old woman in 2021.
Mendy was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault in August 2021. In the trial held last January, he was acquitted of some charges, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the remaining charges, leading to a retrial this time.
Mendy will also face additional retrials later this year for three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault brought by five women.
Mendy denies the allegations, claiming "all sexual activities were consensual."
The French footballer, who plays as a left-back, gained attention as a key player in AS Monaco's 2016-2017 Ligue 1 title win and their UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final run.
Before the 2018-2019 season, he transferred to Man City for a then-record fee of ?52 million (approximately 86.3 billion KRW) for a left-back.
However, at Man City, he mainly played as a substitute before becoming a suspect in a sex crime case and leaving the team. Due to the sexual assault allegations, Mendy has not played in a match for two years, and his contract with Man City ended on this day.
