Busan City and the Busan Tourism Organization will hold various events across Busan in July, coinciding with the official opening of the beaches that mark the start of the summer season.

First, a giant Baby Shark will return to its hometown Busan and stay on the water at APEC Naru Park for a month.

Starting July 1, in line with the opening of the ‘2023 Baby Shark Busan Festival ‘Hello, Busan!’, certification photo and quiz events are being held through the tourism portal ‘Visit Busan’ and social networking services (SNS). On the opening day, a free photo printing event will be held for the first 500 people who post certification photos.

While Baby Shark is staying, APEC Naru Park will operate the ‘Baby Shark Night Playground’ for two hours from 6 p.m. on Saturdays, July 8, 22, and 29.

To avoid the hot midday heat, a playground will be created where children can run and play in the forest on cool summer nights, featuring magic shows, bubble shows, and Baby Shark treasure hunt events.

During the ‘2023 Busan Food Film Festa’, on July 1 and 2, the ‘Starry Sea Busan Night Food Terrace’ will be held.

After watching a movie themed around ‘bread’, visitors can enjoy food and talks on the rooftop of the Haeundae River Cruise, and enjoy the night view while cruising. Starting with this, the ‘Starry Sea Busan Night Festa’ will be held across Busan until October.

At Dadaepo Beach Park, starting Saturday, July 22, the ‘Starry Sea Busan Night Music Campnic’ will be held, and at Geumbit Noeul Bridge area in Buk-gu, the ‘Starry Sea Busan Night Market’ will operate every weekend throughout October.

In the city center, the ‘Busan Alley Festival’ that began in June will conclude with the ‘Mangmi Art & Book Festival’. This event, which explores the tastes and nightlife of Busan’s alleys, will wrap up in Mangmi Alley after passing through Jeonpo and Yeongdo Bongsan Village. It will be held on July 1 and 2 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mangmi Alley and Beacon Ground.

There will be a ‘Play Market’ where children sell books and toys, a ‘Book Market’ by bookstores, and the Busan Gourmet Table offering Busan-themed lunch boxes, craft beer, and traditional liquor to winners of a prior online event.

At Yongdusan Park, a representative old downtown tourist spot in Busan, a night popup themed ‘Colors of Korea’ will be held for ten days from June 30 to July 9, operating from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization, this event will utilize the former Hanbok Experience Center to install landscape lighting and offer activities such as making Cheongsachorong lanterns and sending international postcards to showcase the colors and nights of Korea. At Boksundoga, a tasting event will be held to introduce the flavors of Korea.

Additionally, a flea market featuring ten representative Busan souvenirs will be held, along with a free photo shoot event at Life Four Cuts, encouraging many citizens and tourists to visit Yongdusan Park at night and widely promote Busan’s charm.

This year, Busan was selected as an international landmark-type city for the ‘Night Tourism Specialized City Development Project’, planning to invest 5.6 billion KRW in national and city funds over four years to develop into an internationally recognized night tourism specialized city.

Focusing on the Suyeong River area and Yongdusan Park, plans include the Night River Festa, Night Popup Store, and Silent DJing Party. By operating and revitalizing various programs at tourist spots with relatively fewer night visitors, Busan aims to create ‘Starry Sea Busan’, a fun and safe night tourism city throughout the city.

A city official stated, “When thinking of Busan in summer, most people first think of the beaches, but in fact, Busan is a city where mountains, sea, rivers, downtown, and alleys are all tourist attractions, and where past, present, and future coexist.

In particular, it is the most beautiful and safest city where you can fully enjoy things to do, sights, and food late into the night, including the ‘Seven Bridge’ crossing the coast, Busan Tower at Yongdusan Park, the drone show at Gwangalli, the dazzling city night view from Hwangnyeongsan, and Bupyeong Night Market,” adding, “To further promote Busan’s nights, we will do our best to discover content created together with citizens, such as launching the ‘Starry Sea Busan’ SNS channel and holding photo exhibitions.”
