Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Province, has secured 2.3 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for the first half of 2023, giving a significant boost to projects aimed at ensuring residents' safety and addressing local issues.
According to the county on the 29th, the special grant projects secured for the first half include the expansion of the Gochang Nongak Training Center (1 billion KRW), the establishment of a media art experience zone at the Dolmen Museum (600 million KRW), and the maintenance project of the Heungdeok Songnae Small Stream (700 million KRW), totaling 2.3 billion KRW for three projects.
The "Gochang Nongak Training Center Expansion Project" involves adding lodging facilities on the site of the Gochang Nongak Training Center located in Seongsong-myeon.
This project will provide accommodation capable of hosting more than 150 trainees applying for monthly training, improving the transmission environment and securing a stay-type experience space for traditional cultural arts.
It plans to establish a sustainable foundation for the preservation and transmission of intangible cultural heritage, positioning the center as a regional cultural hub.
The "Dolmen Museum Media Art Experience Zone Construction Project" aims to build a permanent media art experience zone within the Dolmen Museum using various cutting-edge technologies.
As permanent content that widely promotes the value of the World Cultural Heritage dolmens, it seeks to increase tourists during the Year of Visiting Gochang and solidify the city’s status as the only city in Korea holding seven UNESCO-recognized world treasures.
The "Heungdeok Songnae Small Stream Maintenance Project" involves maintaining a stream that has experienced flooding damage to nearby farmland due to embankment overflow during heavy rains, removing disaster risk factors in advance, and preventing damage to residents near Dongnim Reservoir.
The county has built a close cooperative system with local National Assembly member Yoon Jun-byeong to secure the special grants, actively explaining the necessity and urgency directly to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and conducting comprehensive efforts.
County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “I am pleased that this special grant will give more momentum to projects ensuring residents’ safety and solving local issues,” adding, “We will continue to communicate with central government departments and do our best to secure national funds to prioritize projects that reflect the residents’ interests.”
