Gyeonggi Province has issued Emergency Level 1 starting at 7:30 AM on the 29th as heavy rain is forecasted in the central region from midday due to the northward movement of the monsoon front.
Under Emergency Level 1, a total of 17 officials from river management, landslide prevention, and agricultural departments will monitor weather conditions and conduct on-site inspections.
Previously, Gyeonggi Province instructed cities and counties to pre-position flood control materials such as portable water barriers, sandbags, water dams, and pumps in vulnerable areas, including low-lying semi-basement homes, to prevent casualties.
Additionally, the disaster control room is continuously monitoring river water levels using closed-circuit television (CCTV).
Moreover, communication systems are maintained with 31 cities and counties and related agencies to share the situation.
In particular, guidelines such as prohibiting access to high-risk areas like mountain valleys and campsites during heavy rain and refraining from outdoor activities will be promoted through disaster text messages.
The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heavy rain advisory at 9 AM on the 29th for all 28 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province except Anseong, Icheon, and Yeoju. These areas are expected to experience heavy rain with hourly rainfall of 30 to 50 mm from midday to nighttime.
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "Proactive situation management is crucial to prevent casualties from heavy rain. Especially, please thoroughly check and respond to warning and evacuation systems targeting vulnerable areas and groups such as semi-basement homes, underground parking lots, households with disabled persons, and elderly living alone."
