Development Plans for the Noryangjin Station Area as Seen by a Global Futurist?

Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, is accelerating the major transformation of the underdeveloped area around Noryangjin Station.

Dongjak-gu announced that on the 27th, Mayor Park Ilha met with the world-renowned futurist Dr. Thomas Frey at the district office to exchange ideas on transforming the Noryangjin area into a leading city of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

At the meeting, Mayor Park stated, “The district is actively working to attract advanced companies, educational institutions, and future job experience centers to revitalize the underdeveloped Noryangjin Station area.”

In particular, Mayor Park revealed plans to “convert the area around Noryangjin into a platform for advanced companies and a cradle for future job education, and to reorganize Noryangjin Station into a tower-type station comparable to the 63 Building.”

He continued, “It is necessary to reinvent the station from a simple railway station into an advanced complex transfer center, a hall of business and culture, a complex port integrating rail, UAM (Urban Air Mobility), PBV (Purpose-Built Vehicle), water taxis, a large shopping mall, advanced companies, hotels, conventions, e-sports arenas, and working stay zones.”

He also explained plans to attract AI (Artificial Intelligence), Robot Square, and global convention companies to the site of the relocated Dongjak-gu office.

In response, Dr. Thomas Frey said, “Robots and autonomous driving (cars, UAM) will completely change human daily life and civilization,” adding, “The geopolitical location of Noryangjin Station and its recognition as an educational special zone make it suitable for realizing a city of the highest value through urban regeneration.”

He especially emphasized ▲ proactive attraction and nurturing of global startups in advanced 4th industrial sectors ▲ attracting educational institutions similar in geographic and educational background to Cornell Tech ▲ developing specialized business support education programs unique to Noryangjin (Station N) ▲ transforming the image stuck with public exam takers and job seekers into a hub for future innovative vocational education and jobs.

The district will hold a seminar titled ‘Looking at the Future of Dongjak’ starting with a keynote speech by Dr. Thomas Frey at 1:30 PM on the 29th in the district office auditorium.
