According to Russian news agency Interfax on the 27th (local time), Russia suggested broadening the range of cargo handled at Najin Port to increase transportation via the Najin-Hasan railway in North Korea.

Alexander Kozlov, Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, stated at the Russia-North Korea joint committee meeting that day, "I believe efforts to revive the Najin-Hasan joint strategic project are important," and proposed "considering the possibility of handling coal and other cargo at Najin Port."

The Najin-Hasan railway project connects Najin Port in Rason City, North Korea, with Hasan in the southern Primorsky Krai of Russia. It began in October 2008, and cargo transportation through the Tumen River and the border checkpoint at Hasan started in July 2014.
