Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jong-man) announced on the 28th that it will support ambulance costs when emergency patients are transferred from local medical institutions to general hospitals or advanced general hospitals outside the area.
The support recipients are residents and registered foreigners with addresses in Yeonggwang-gun.
Until now, when emergency patients were transferred between hospitals, residents had to bear the basic fee of 75,000 KRW, an additional charge of 1,300 KRW per kilometer, and a 20% surcharge for nighttime, increasing the economic burden on the residents.
To apply, the patient or guardian must visit the public health center within 30 days from the transfer date and submit the application form along with the required documents. Those eligible for compensation under other laws, such as industrial accidents and traffic accidents, are excluded.
A county official stated, “Since many emergency patients use private vehicles due to increased personal costs when being transferred to general hospitals outside the area, we have enacted the ‘Ordinance and Enforcement Rules on Emergency Patient Transfer Support’ to alleviate the economic burden. We hope patients avoid using private vehicles and receive timely treatment to benefit from this support.”
For more details, please contact the Medical Management Team of the Health Policy Division at the public health center.
