"Former President Kim Dae-jung is my political starting point"
Pro-Nak faction Seol Hoon and Yoon Young-chan accompany
Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon, who returned after studying in the United States, has started his political comeback.
On the morning of the 28th, Lee visited the grave of the late former President Kim Dae-jung at the National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, and observed a moment of silence. Lawmakers Seol Hoon and Yoon Young-chan, who are part of the pro-Lee Nak-yeon faction within the Democratic Party, accompanied him on this visit.
After the visit, Lee told reporters, "Former President Kim is the starting point of my political career," adding, "That is why, just as I came here to pay my respects before departing a year ago, I have come to pay my respects upon returning."
The National Cemetery is a symbolic place that political leaders typically visit when beginning a new chapter in their careers. Lee, who returned from studying in the U.S. on the 24th after one year and 17 days, hinted at his political intentions by saying, "I will accomplish what I could not finish."
On the following day, the 25th, Lee held a dinner meeting at a location in Seoul with pro-Lee faction members of the party, including lawmakers who had greeted him at Incheon Airport's arrival hall. It is reported that during the dinner, reflections on Lee’s return and discussions about his future role took place.
Lee is also said to be planning schedules such as visiting former President Moon Jae-in and Bongha Village. Regarding this, he explained, "I will first pay respects to those I need to," adding, "So far, that is the extent of my planned activities."
