'Jo Guk Running for General Election' Poll...Opposition 53.1%, Support 33.7%

Newsis Poll Results Show Majority Opposition
56.1% of Democratic Party Supporters Favor Candidacy

A public opinion poll revealed that the majority of the public opposes former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk's candidacy in the 22nd general election.


According to a poll conducted on the 28th by Newsis, commissioned to the public opinion research firms Kukmin Research Group and Ace Research, 53.1% of respondents opposed former Minister Cho's candidacy. Those in favor of his candidacy accounted for 33.7%, while 13.2% said they were unsure.

By party support, 83.2% of People Power Party supporters opposed former Minister Cho's candidacy. In contrast, 56.1% of Democratic Party supporters responded that they support his candidacy. Among the non-affiliated voters, 43.8% opposed and 29% supported his candidacy.


By region, opposition was high in all areas except Gwangju, Jeolla, and Jeju. The opposition rates were 60.6% in Daejeon, Chungcheong, Sejong, and Gangwon; 51.9% in Seoul; 54.8% in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam; 53.8% in Incheon and Gyeonggi; and 50% in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. In Gwangju, Jeolla, and Jeju, support and opposition were nearly tied at 44.8% and 44.7%, respectively.


By gender, 53.9% of men opposed and 33.4% supported, while among women, 52.4% opposed and 33.9% supported.


By age group, opposition was higher in all age groups except those in their 50s. Among people in their 50s, 44.8% supported and 43.5% opposed.


Meanwhile, this survey was conducted using a random sample extraction method with 100% wireless automated response system (ARS). The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 1.4%. For more details, please refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
