Hong Young-geun, head of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, conducted an on-site inspection of areas at risk of human casualties due to typhoons and heavy rainfall.
According to Jeonnam Fire on the 27th, Director Hong visited Tanchi Village in Jinsang-myeon, Gwangyang City, which suffered damage in July 2021, to inspect temporary restoration facilities and carried out on-site inspections to prevent secondary damage.
Afterwards, he attended a meeting with provincial assembly members Lim Hyung-seok and Park Kyung-mi to discuss responses to summer flood and typhoon disasters.
Jeonnam Fire plans to actively conduct on-site inspections to minimize flood and typhoon damage.
First, by early July, the Fire Headquarters chief will personally inspect 12 vulnerable areas at risk of flooding and collapse due to steep slopes.
The previous day, Director Hong held a video conference for commanders to prepare for summer flood and typhoon disasters, instructing senior officials such as fire station chiefs to conduct inspections of 557 flood and typhoon risk sites across the province.
Jeonnam Fire plans to implement emergency response measures focused on strengthening surveillance by pre-positioning firefighting forces in areas at risk of human casualties until October, maintaining 100% operational status of water rescue equipment, and enhancing cooperation systems with emergency rescue support agencies.
Director Hong stated, “The frequency of heavy rainfall and typhoons is expected to increase due to abnormal weather patterns,” and added, “Please keep all possibilities open within the scope of firefighting activities during disasters and devise countermeasures.”
