Seongbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has signed a business agreement for the ‘Digital Safety Watch Technology Development Project’ to systematically and efficiently manage aged buildings.

The agreement involves six organizations: Seongbuk-gu, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Seoul City, Dongdaemun-gu, the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.

The Digital Safety Watch Technology Development Project is a 24.2 billion KRW project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and carried out by the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.

The project focuses on developing technology that utilizes advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) such as big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and drones to remotely manage building safety, predict safety risks in advance, and respond accordingly.

Seongbuk-gu expects that through this agreement, it can digitalize and build safety information of existing buildings and address manpower shortages by using ICT-based inspection and defect detection technologies.

In particular, it is anticipated to greatly contribute to predicting and responding to risks such as collapse, earthquakes, and fires in aged buildings by establishing a local government safety management support system.

Seongbuk-gu and Dongdaemun-gu, participating in the Digital Safety Watch Technology Development Project for the first time in Seoul, will provide information such as blueprints of demonstration target buildings in their regions and offer administrative support for on-site inspections.

Seongbuk-gu plans to digitalize blueprints of 500 buildings in the two districts and conduct on-site inspections of 50 buildings by 2025.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “Since the safety management of aged buildings urgently needs to transition to a digital-based automated management system, Seongbuk-gu has proactively joined the digital safety management system construction project. We will do our best to ensure residents’ safety by conducting building safety management more accurately and swiftly.”
