Hanwha Aerospace announced on the 27th that it expressed gratitude to 15 individuals, including Australian veterans who participated in the 'Battle of Kapyong,' one of the fiercest battlefields during the Korean War, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the armistice agreement.
During the Korean War, Australia was the fifth country to send the largest number of troops to assist Korea, following the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and T?rkiye. The Australian forces participated in April 1951 as the 27th British Commonwealth Brigade and repelled the invasion of the Chinese Communist forces in battles fought in Gapyeong County.
Hanwha Aerospace, together with photographer Kwon Soon-hyung, who is active in Australia, visited surviving veterans of the Battle of Kapyong residing in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, and other locations to conduct photo shoots. They presented framed photos along with a message saying, "We thank you for your noble sacrifice and dedication to protecting the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea, and we will remember you forever."
Additionally, in the northern Sydney area of Macmaster Beach, at the request of the state government to commemorate the Battle of Kapyong, the road in front of the veterans’ residences was designated as 'Kapyong Close,' and a plaque of appreciation and the Emille Bell were presented to the descendants of the veterans who have been commemorating the battle.
A Hanwha Aerospace official said, "On the 70th anniversary of the armistice, we express our gratitude to those who sacrificed for peace during the Korean War and their descendants, and we hope this will strengthen the relationship between the Republic of Korea and Australia."
The stories of the soldiers who led the Battle of Kapyong to victory and their bereaved families can be found in a special documentary commemorating the 70th anniversary of the armistice, produced by PD Kim Young-mi, who has worked as a war and civil war specialist producer around the world for 23 years.
