From 28th to 30th, over 180 athletes from 22 occupations including Korea Polytechnics Busan Campus participate
Gold medalists granted qualification to compete in the '40th National Disabled Skills Competition' in Gyeongju this September
Busan City will hold the ‘2023 Busan Metropolitan City Disabled Skills Competition’ from the 28th to June 30th at Korea Polytechnic University Busan Campus, Busan Health College, and other locations.
The Busan Disabled Skills Competition (Chairman Park Hyung-jun) is hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and organized by Busan City, the Busan branch of the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, and the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled. It is held annually to raise awareness of employment for people with disabilities in society and businesses and to improve the skills of people with disabilities. Through this Busan competition, representatives for the national competition will be selected.
The opening ceremony will be held on the first day (28th) at 10 a.m. in the main auditorium on the first floor of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. About 300 participants, officials, and volunteers will attend, and the ceremony will begin with awards for meritorious persons, oaths by athlete representatives promising fair competition, and the declaration of the start of the competition.
This year, 187 athletes will compete in 22 categories: 14 ‘regular occupations’ including ▲furniture making ▲najeonchilgi (mother-of-pearl lacquerware) ▲visual design; 5 ‘demonstration occupations’ including ▲massage ▲bicycle assembly ▲bakery and confectionery ▲Word Processor ▲barista; and 3 leisure and life technology categories including ▲nail art ▲painting ▲e-sports.
Winners in each category will be exempt from the practical test for the relevant occupational technician qualification for two years, as stipulated by the ‘National Technical Qualifications Act.’ In particular, gold medalists in each event will qualify to participate in the ‘40th National Disabled Skills Competition’ to be held this September in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk.
The awards ceremony for this competition will be held on the last day of the competition, June 30th, at 10 a.m. in the main conference room of the Busan Disabled Persons’ Comprehensive Center.
An official from the city said, “We ask for the citizens’ encouragement and support for the athletes who are participating in the competition by honing their skills with effort and passion despite difficult circumstances,” and added, “We will continue to strive to make Busan a happy city where all working people with disabilities can have good jobs.”
