Gwanak-gu, Maintenance of 5.85km of aging sewer pipes around Nakseongdae Station 8-gil and Bongcheon Station area
Improvement of water flow capacity and prevention of road subsidence through sewer pipe upgrades and emergency repairs of sewer facilities
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) is making every effort to prevent flood damage by maintaining aging sewer pipes in preparation for heavy summer rains.
The district prioritized maintenance of a total of 21.5 km of aging sewer pipes selected through its own investigation and Seoul city review last year, and secured a budget of 10 billion KRW this year to begin full-scale maintenance from March.
They upgraded 4.42 km of aging sewer pipes in areas such as Nakseongdae Station 8-gil and Haengun-gil, and maintained 1.43 km in areas where excavation is impossible due to underground facilities, such as the Hyundai Market intersection and around Bongcheon Station, using trenchless sewer pipe repair and reinforcement methods.
Additionally, emergency repairs and reinforcements were carried out on 2.20 km of pipes and sewer facilities such as manholes to improve water flow capacity and prevent safety accidents like road subsidence.
Along with this, the district is also maintaining rainwater inlets. On June 15, district officials and local residents joined forces to conduct a thorough cleaning of rainwater inlets, carefully removing fallen leaves and other debris accumulated on the inlet covers.
Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, stated, “Improving water flow capacity is very important to prevent flood damage,” and added, “As heavy rainfall is expected this year, we will do our best to manage the sewer system systematically and with advanced methods.”
