'159 Weeks at No.1' Ko Jin-young: "Honored to Be Mentioned Alongside Ochoa"

Official Weekly Women's Golf World Rankings Announced
Ko Jin-young Sets Longest Record with 5 Consecutive Weeks and 159 Weeks Total

This is the sentiment of Ko Jin-young, who has achieved the longest-ever period as No. 1 in the women's golf world rankings. On the afternoon of the 26th (local time), she received 8.31 points in the weekly women's golf world rankings, maintaining her No. 1 position for the fifth consecutive week. Ko Jin-young surpassed Ochoa, who was previously tied for first place, setting a historic record of 159 weeks as 'Number 1.' She said, "It is an honor to be mentioned alongside Ochoa," adding, "This makes me happy, but also humble." She continued, "The pressure to perform well seems to have made me stronger," and vowed, "I will continue to strive to be a good person and a good player." Ko Jin-young added significance to the new record by working with caddie David Brooker (England), who was once Ochoa's assistant.


'159 Weeks at No.1' Ko Jin-young: "Honored to Be Mentioned Alongside Ochoa" Ko Jin-young made a new history by holding the No. 1 spot in the women's golf world rankings for a record-breaking 159 consecutive weeks.

Ko Jin-young debuted on the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour in 2018 and has since secured a total of 15 wins, including two major championships, establishing herself as a dominant force. This year, she also claimed victories at the HSBC Women's World Championship in March and the Founders Cup in May. She currently shares the lead for most wins this season, ranks first in the CME Globe Race (1478 points), second in scoring average (69.50 strokes), third in earnings ($1,117,279), and third in Player of the Year points (75 points).


Ko Jin-young first reached No. 1 in the world rankings in April 2019 and has held the top spot for 159 out of 221 weeks up to this week. Her longest consecutive No. 1 streak lasted 100 weeks from July 2019 to June 2021. The second to fifth longest streaks are held by Ochoa (158 weeks), Lydia Ko (New Zealand, 125 weeks), Yani Tseng (Taiwan, 109 weeks), and Park In-bee (106 weeks), respectively.


This week's world rankings list Nelly Korda (USA) in second place, Lydia Ko in third, and Lilia Vu (USA) in fourth. In-Ru Ning (China), who won the major KPMG Women's PGA Championship the day before, jumped from 25th last week to 5th place. South Korea's Kim Hyo-joo is ranked 8th, and Jeon In-ji is 16th. Domestic No. 1 Park Min-ji rose one spot to 25th after achieving back-to-back wins at last week's BC Card·Hankyung Ladies Cup.
