Intensive Removal Operations Starting from June and July in the First Phase

Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is set to actively carry out a project to eradicate the invasive species Cissus, which is breeding around the tributaries of the Nakdong River in the region.

Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong-gun is actively promoting the eradication of the invasive plant species, Cissus.

Cheongsong-gun will invest a budget of 81 million KRW to deploy removal personnel to 57 locations, including Yongjeoncheon, identified as habitats of Cissus, and will implement seasonal removal projects starting in June.

For effective eradication of Cissus, the first phase will focus on intensive removal work from June to July before the plant bears fruit, and the second phase will involve checking and additionally removing any regrowth from August to October.

Cissus rapidly grows along riverbanks and watersides, altering the habitats of plants and aquatic animals living near the water. It climbs over nearby trees and crops, obstructing their photosynthesis and causing them to wither, thereby disrupting the ecological balance.

Due to its rapid growth, reproductive capacity, and ease of movement and spread, it was designated as an invasive species in 2009.

Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “We will do our best to protect native plants in the region and maintain a healthy ecosystem through the intensive removal of Cissus.”
