Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do will conduct special inspections and guidance for the collection and testing of high-consumption foods such as edible ice and coffee, as well as hygiene and safety management of sales establishments, until the 28th of this month.

According to the city on the 26th, this inspection will target 23 large marts (other food sales businesses) and 8 franchise rest stops (cafes, etc.).

The main inspection items include ▲ compliance with hygiene handling standards for food, ▲ whether expired foods are sold or displayed/stored for sale, ▲ whether raw materials and products prone to spoilage or deterioration are stored in freezing/refrigeration facilities, and ▲ compliance with other food hygiene laws and regulations.

The city plans to preemptively block the distribution of illegal or substandard foods by testing bacteria counts, E. coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus in high-consumption summer foods such as coffee, slushies, and ice cream during this inspection.

For violations found during this inspection, minor violations will be corrected on-site, and for major violations, administrative actions will be taken according to the Food Sanitation Act to further ensure the safety of high-consumption foods in preparation for the summer season.

Mayor Lee Hak-su stated, “We will do our best to manage food safety so that citizens can safely consume high-consumption foods, which see increased demand during the hot summer season.”
