Gumi City Attracts 'So-Bu-Jang Companies' Leading Future Industries

Mayor Kim Jang-ho's High-Flying Investment Attraction Performance in the 8th Civilian Term

Leading Defense, Semiconductor, and Secondary Battery Industries ... Co-Growth with So-Bu-Jang Companies

Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province has launched the New Hope Gumi Era under the 8th local government administration, focusing on fostering future industries in the semiconductor, defense industry, and secondary battery sectors, and is actively pursuing strategic corporate attraction activities to usher in an era of 30 trillion KRW in investment attraction.

As a result, in just one year, the city achieved remarkable investment attraction results with 3.79 trillion KRW and the creation of 2,791 jobs.

Notably, this achievement is significant not only because of large-scale investments by major corporations but also due to the continuous investment efforts by local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in materials, parts, and equipment sectors such as Boback CNS, GI, KIT, and Samyang Comtech.

SMEs in materials, parts, and equipment form the foundation of domestic manufacturing and are the roots of regional industries. The successive investments in Gumi by SMEs?such as Komatechnology’s semiconductor deposition materials, KH Vatech’s automotive parts manufacturing, and Boback CNS’s secondary battery insulators?are creating a cooperative ecosystem among companies in the Gumi National Industrial Complex and signaling the region’s technological self-reliance.

Amid the global economic downturn, the city continues to actively attract investments by implementing systematic corporate support policies and providing substantial cash incentives to encourage local companies to invest. Through this, it is facilitating additional investments by medium-sized and small enterprises in cooperation with large corporations, acting as a lubricant for regional economic revitalization.

Additionally, by offering a one-stop investment attraction service, the city minimizes corporate difficulties arising throughout the entire process from move-in to completion of construction permits. It also assigns a dedicated investment attraction PM (Project Manager) for each company to provide tailored consulting through post-management.

As a result, the overall period from signing move-in contracts to permits, groundbreaking, and completion within the industrial complex has been significantly shortened since Mayor Kim Jang-ho took office, prompting reinvestment by companies located in Gumi.

Gumi is a national industrial complex with the largest inland high-tech industrial complex, equipped with abundant industrial water from the Nakdong River (328,000 tons/day) and a sufficient power supply network from six substations (capacity of 885.2 MW/h).

With the addition of infrastructure such as the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport, Defense Innovation Cluster, and Secondary Battery Promotion Hub Center, investment is expected to accelerate further.

Since taking office, Mayor Kim Jang-ho has visited over 30 companies, personally examining their difficulties and enjoying lunch with workers to listen to their voices through open communication.

Mayor Kim said, “Where there is industrial infrastructure, people and companies gather to firmly build the city’s foundational strength. We will focus all efforts on expanding infrastructure and attracting companies so that Gumi City can become a self-reliant regional hub city.”
