Geochang-gun Promotes Diaper and Formula Milk Support Program for Low-Income Families

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is promoting a diaper and formula milk support project to reduce the economic burden on low-income families with infants (0-24 months) and to create a healthy childcare environment.

The diaper support targets households receiving basic livelihood security benefits with infants under 2 years old, households with disabled persons earning 80% or less of the median income, and multi-child families (two or more children), selected through verification of the health insurance premium self-payment amount.

Among them, if breastfeeding is impossible due to the mother's death or illness (such as AIDS, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, etc.), the cost of purchasing formula milk can also be supported.

Those who wish to receive diaper and formula milk support for low-income families can apply at the public health center or administrative welfare center with jurisdiction over the infant's resident registration address by bringing their ID card.

Once confirmed as a support recipient, they can receive monthly support of 80,000 KRW for diaper purchase and 100,000 KRW for formula milk purchase in the form of a voucher using the National Happiness Card from the month of application until the month the infant turns 24 months old. If applied within 60 days from the date of birth, support is provided for the entire 24 months.

County Governor Ku In-mo said, "We expect the diaper and formula milk support project to help improve the health and hygiene management of low-income infants," and added, "We will strive for diverse and continuous promotion so that more infants can receive support."

Meanwhile, Geochang-gun supported a total of 189 people until 2022, achieving first place among counties in Gyeongsangnam-do, and selected 39 new recipients this year.
