Song Young-gil on the 'Tablet PC' Manipulation Allegation in the State Affairs Scandal... Lee Won-seok: "An Unacceptable Act"

First Visit to Korea Exchange by a Former Prosecutor General

Former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil claimed that the 'tablet PC,' which became key evidence during the investigation of the state affairs manipulation scandal, was fabricated. In response, Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok drew a clear line, stating that "such a thing cannot be allowed."

On the 22nd, Prosecutor General Lee visited the Korea Exchange in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and said, "I felt both regret and surprise that someone who was once the leader of the Democratic Party made claims aligned with Choi Seo-won (formerly Choi Soon-sil), who alleged that the tablet PC was fabricated."

He continued, "However, regardless of any claims, it is unimaginable that the prosecution would fabricate evidence, and I believe such acts cannot be permitted in the face of history. The court has already fully recognized the evidentiary value of the tablet PC, confirming its use as evidence, and a guilty verdict was finalized long ago," he added.

Prosecutor General Lee served as the head of the Special 1 Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office during the state affairs manipulation investigation and was the lead prosecutor responsible for the investigation and trial.

Regarding the currently ongoing Joint Investigation Team for Virtual Asset Crimes, Prosecutor General Lee explained, "We are devising measures to prevent further spread of damage."

He emphasized, "People may feel that the laws and systems are somewhat lacking in protecting virtual asset users or in activating and stabilizing the virtual asset market. The prosecution is strictly punishing Ponzi schemes disguised as virtual assets, corruption related to virtual asset listings, and various similar fraudulent activities to prevent the spread of damage. I will also consult with the chairman of the exchange on this matter."

The prosecution is discussing with related agencies such as the Financial Supervisory Service and the Financial Services Commission the establishment of a joint investigation team for virtual assets.

Regarding the impeachment motion against prosecutors being pushed by the Democratic Party, he responded, "Among the prosecutors involved, some have been indicted and are on trial, and some have already had disciplinary requests filed by the prosecution. I will not comment separately on what the National Assembly is doing. The prosecution’s mission and duty are to focus solely on the people and to do what we must do."
