Education for Forming Proper Eating Habits Followed by a Non-Face-to-Face Challenge
Participants Receive a Healthy Dinner and a Small Reward for Completing the Challenge
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it will operate the ‘A Healthy Meal on the Way Home from Work’ program, which supports residents’ dietary management, five times from June 16 through October.
‘A Healthy Meal on the Way Home from Work’ is a program designed to support residents in managing metabolic syndrome and forming proper eating habits.
After completing face-to-face education on topics such as choosing healthy dining-out menus and practicing a low-sodium diet, participants join a two-week non-face-to-face challenge to share their eating habits.
Participants are provided with a healthy dinner such as low-sodium lunch boxes, salads, and sandwiches on the day of education, and those who successfully complete the challenge receive rewards such as salinometers, mushroom kit packages, and healthy snacks.
Anyone aged 20 to 64 who lives in Gangbuk-gu or works in Gangbuk-gu can participate in this program.
The face-to-face education sessions are held five times at 7 p.m. on June 16, July 14, August 18, September 8, and October 13.
On June 16, the district held the first education session titled ‘Practicing Healthy Dining Out’ at the Gangbuk 50 Plus Center (49 Ohyeon-ro 9-gil, Gangbuk-gu), providing participants with healthy lunch boxes (sprout kimbap, gito kimbap, seaweed kimbap, etc.) and magnifying cards for checking nutrition labels as educational materials.
On that day, 96% of participants expressed their intention to participate in future sessions.
Residents who wish to participate in the program starting July 14 can apply through the Google Form link posted on the Gangbuk-gu website or inquire at the Gangbuk-gu Public Health Center.
The number of participants is limited to 40 per session, and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Since the program operates with different themes each month, participants can apply multiple times. However, if there are many applicants, the district will prioritize new participants.
Also, to confirm a reservation, applicants must be registered as metabolic syndrome management project participants by 3 p.m. the day before the education session.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “I hope many people participate in the program to correct their eating habits and manage metabolic syndrome,” adding, “We will continue to prepare various programs for the health management of residents in the era of 100-year lifespans.”
