Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 21st that the '2023 Gochang Mudflat Festival' will be held at Mandol Mudflat in Simwon-myeon from the 23rd to the 25th.
The mudflats of Gochang, certified as a Global Geopark last month and registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2021, are a premier tourist destination with a pristine natural environment.

The Gochang Mudflat Festival Committee (Chairman Kim Chung) holds the mudflat festival annually to widely promote the valuable mudflats of Gochang.
This year’s festival offers various experiential activities such as 'Mudflat Experience Activities,' where visitors dig for clams and small clams in the mudflat, and 'Slippery Pungcheon Eel Catching,' where participants catch Pungcheon eels, Gochang’s representative seafood, with their bare hands.
In terms of food, there will be a variety of seafood specialty food corners unique to Gochang, including gimbugak (seaweed crackers) and small clam seafood ramen, as well as opportunities to taste and purchase Pungcheon eels, Gochang’s representative specialty product, on-site.
Especially, the opening ceremony on the 23rd will feature performances by popular singers Hong Jin-young and Bae Il-ho, as well as singers from Mr. Trot 2 and Burning Trot Men.
Kim Chung, Chairman of the Gochang Mudflat Festival Committee, said, “At the Gochang Mudflat Festival, you will be able to beat the summer heat with abundant food and diverse experiential activities,” adding, “We will make every effort to prepare so that the 2023 Gochang Mudflat Festival can serve as an opportunity to widely promote the proud Gochang mudflats and Gochang seafood.”
