Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will support the National Health Insurance premiums for 3,932 low-income vulnerable households.
This project fully covers the insurance premiums for households whose health insurance premium calculation amount is lower than the minimum premium of 19,780 KRW set by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, including registered disabled persons, single-parent families, and chronic disease patients.
The purpose is to prevent cases where individuals cannot use medical institutions due to unpaid minimum health insurance premiums.
Seongnam City increased the number of households eligible for full premium support starting this month, based on the revision of the National Health Insurance Corporation's premium assessment system and related ordinance amendments.
Along with this, the project budget for this year was increased and reorganized from 363.24 million KRW (for 2,169 households) by adding 154 million KRW (for 1,763 households), totaling 517.24 million KRW (for 3,932 households).
The support is provided by Seongnam City receiving the list of eligible recipients monthly from the National Health Insurance Corporation, verifying eligibility, and then paying the premiums to the corporation.
A Seongnam City official explained, "This will minimize the blind spots in medical care caused by unpaid minimum health insurance premiums and guarantee the health rights of low-income groups."
