Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Park Hee-young) is partnering with Sookmyung Women’s University to operate the ‘2023 Summer Vacation Children’s English Camp’ from July 24 to August 4.
The curriculum was organized by Sookmyung TESOL, a renowned institution for training international English teachers. It mainly consists of various experiences and field trips centered on science and arts.
The English camp runs 7 hours a day (9 AM to 4 PM), 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) for 2 weeks.
The recruitment target is 90 elementary school students in grades 3 to 6 who are registered residents of Yongsan-gu (including 9 children from low-income families).
Those who wish to participate can apply through the Yongsan-gu Education Comprehensive Portal from 10 AM on the 21st to 4 PM on the 30th. Selection is on a first-come, first-served basis, and results will be individually notified via text message at 2 PM on the 3rd.
The participation fee is 800,000 KRW, with 400,000 KRW self-paid and 400,000 KRW covered by Yongsan-gu. Low-income families, including basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, and low-income single-parent families, are fully exempted from the fee (supported by the district).
The district will conduct a level test on July 10 and 11 and organize 6 classes according to proficiency levels. Each class will have about 15 students. Each class will be assigned a native English teacher and an assistant teacher.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We hope many will participate in this English camp where children can commute to the nearby Sookmyung University campus and enjoy a fun vacation.”
