Start of 2nd Phase Commercialization of 5G Shared Use
Targeting 411 Eup and Myeon in 54 Cities and Counties
Gradual Implementation Until the First Half of Next Year

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 20th that the three major telecommunications companies have begun the second phase of commercializing 5th generation mobile communication (5G) shared roaming in some rural fishing and farming areas. The three companies are building 5G networks through shared usage among them to enable rural users to access 5G services as soon as possible. They are promoting phased commercialization until the first half of next year.

The rural areas where 5G commercialization is being launched this time include 411 towns and townships located in 54 cities and counties. These areas are divided into those where all towns and townships are covered and those where only some are covered. Areas with full coverage include Gunsan-si, Gimcheon-si, Namwon-si, Dangjin-si, Mungyeong-si, Miryang-si, Boryeong-si, Sangju-si, Seosan-si, Yangyang-gun, Yeongju-si, Yeongcheon-si, Goheung-gun, Sunchang-gun, Imsil-gun, Jangsu-gun, and Jangheung-gun. Areas with partial coverage include Gyeongsan-si, Gongju-si, Namhae-gun, Nonsan-si, Sacheon-si, Andong-si, Jecheon-si, Ganghwa-gun, Gokseong-gun, Goesan-gun, Gurye-gun, Geumsan-gun, Damyang-gun, Boseong-gun, Buyeo-gun, Yeongam-gun, Yesan-gun, Yecheon-gun, Wanju-gun, Uiseong-gun, Jangseong-gun, Jeungpyeong-gun, Jincheon-gun, Pyeongchang-gun, Changnyeong-gun, Cheongdo-gun, Cheongyang-gun, Taean-gun, Hadong-gun, Hampyeong-gun, Hongseong-gun, Hongcheon-gun, Hwasun-gun, and Hoengseong-gun.


The Ministry of Science and ICT stated, “We will promptly complete the third phase of 5G shared usage commercialization in rural areas and continuously monitor and support through 5G service quality evaluations to ensure network quality.”
