The festival for triathlon enthusiasts, the ‘2023 Goseong IRONMAN 70.3’ held in the Danghangpo area of Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam, concluded successfully.
The event, held at the main venue of Danghangpo Tourist Site in Goseong-gun and the World Triathlon Association certified course, kicked off with the Goseong IRONMAN Expo on the 6th and officially opened with a grand ceremony on the 17th.
The festival for triathlon enthusiasts, the "2023 Goseong Ironman 70.3 Competition," held in the Danghangpo area of Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam, concluded successfully.
At the opening ceremony, Lee Byung-gi, president of the Korea Triathlon Association, donated 5 million KRW from the Hometown Love Donation Fund to Goseong-gun, adding significance to the event.
About 900 triathlon enthusiasts from 21 countries completed the three events?swimming (1.9 km), cycling (90.1 km), and running (21.1 km)?covering a total of 70.3 miles, starting at 6:40 a.m. on the 8th from the waterfront stage at Danghangpo Tourist Site.
In the men's division, South Korea’s Oh Sang-hwan finished with the best time of 4 hours 21 minutes 11 seconds, and in the women's division, South Korea’s Oh Seon-jeong completed the race in 5 hours 14 minutes 55 seconds. Top finishers in 12 men’s categories (ages 18?24, 25?29, 30?34, etc.) and 10 women’s categories (ages 18?24, 25?29, 30?34, etc.) were awarded entry rights to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.
Notably, about 1,000 Goseong residents participated as volunteers, and all 50,000 residents of the county contributed to the successful hosting of the event.
County Governor Lee Sang-geun expressed his gratitude, saying, “The successful hosting of this festival for triathlon enthusiasts was made possible thanks to the 1,000 volunteer residents of Goseong-gun.”
Meanwhile, the Goseong IRONMAN 70.3 event is widely known as the ‘Dinosaur IRONMAN’ competition in collaboration with Goseong’s dinosaurs and will be held again in Goseong in 2024.
