As of the end of last month, the total number of robot-assisted surgeries performed at Korea University Guro Hospital reached 3,042. Among these, 1,028 cases were single-port (SP) robot-assisted surgeries performed using the latest robotic surgical system, the da Vinci SP. Analyzing by department, obstetrics and gynecology surgeries accounted for the largest number with 951 cases, followed by hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery (784 cases) and cardiothoracic surgery (569 cases).

Single-port robot-assisted surgery is performed through only one incision, which reduces the risk of infection and allows for faster recovery compared to robot-assisted surgeries that require 3 to 4 incisions. Korea University Guro Hospital was recently designated as the world's first thoracic single-port robot surgery training center, as well as an obstetrics and gynecology single-port robot surgery training center, providing single-port robot surgery techniques to medical professionals from various countries.

Jung Hee-jin, director of Korea University Guro Hospital, stated, "Although Korea University Guro Hospital adopted robotic surgical systems relatively later, it is globally recognized for its expertise in single-port surgery, which is considered one of the most advanced techniques in robot-assisted surgery. We will continue to strengthen our leading position broadly in the field of robotic surgery."

Kim Jong-wook, head of the Robot Surgery Center and professor of urology, said, "Currently, medical professionals from advanced countries such as the United States and Japan visit Korea University Guro Hospital to learn the know-how of single-port robot-assisted surgery. We will not only become a mecca for single-port robot surgery but also lead the advancement of robotic surgical technology."
