Director Lee Won-se, who directed the film 'Under the Sky Without a Mother' (1977), passed away on the 19th due to old age. He was 83 years old.
Born in 1940 in Pyeongwon, South Pyongan Province, he made his directorial debut in 1971 with the film 'Lost Season.' He also made films such as 'Leave at Sunset' and 'You and I' (1973), and 'Under the Sky Without a Mother' was a box office success in 1977.
In 1981, he showed his social criticism awareness with 'The Ball Shot by a Dwarf,' a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by writer Jo Se-hee. Although selected as a Grand Bell Awards winner, he suffered the hardship of having the award canceled just before the announcement.
In 1981, he won the Baeksang Arts Award for Best Director for 'A Word Left by a Comrade,' and in 1984, he received the Grand Bell Award for Best Film for 'The Last Day of That Summer.' He later made films such as 'Queen Bee' (1985).
The funeral hall is set up in Room 1, Special 1, at the New Goryeo Hospital Funeral Hall in Gimpo. The funeral procession will be held on the 21st.
