Choi Man-rim, Deputy Governor of Gyeongnam Province, "We Must Protect Residents' Health from Summer Heatwaves"

Choi Man-rim, Deputy Governor of Gyeongnam Province, ordered measures to prevent the scorching heat this summer at the department and bureau heads meeting on the 19th.

On this day, Deputy Governor Choi led the meeting on behalf of Governor Park Wan-su, who left on an 8-night, 10-day overseas business trip to Spain and France starting from the 14th.

He proposed gathering employee opinions to break away from standardized events and make them simple and creative, suggesting the creation and provision of reference materials for each event such as cultural arts, sports, and commemorative ceremonies.

He continued, “This year, a heatwave is expected due to the El Ni?o phenomenon,” and instructed, “Promote adjustment of working hours through village chiefs and amplifiers so that farmers do not go out to work in the fields during heat-vulnerable times.”

He urged, “Shade shelters should be installed at outdoor workplaces, and workers should be provided with drinking water to ensure they can take sufficient rest.”

He also instructed that care workers, who are personnel performing elderly care projects, visit each household to ensure vulnerable groups and elderly living alone are not excluded from heatwave measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Emphasizing the prevention and management of infectious diseases such as food poisoning in social welfare facilities and large restaurants, as well as drowning accidents during water play, he said, “Focus on the health and safety management of the residents.”

Deputy Governor Choi also stressed securing national budget related to major issues in Gyeongnam Province.

“During the Ministry of Strategy and Finance’s budget review period, I ask the executives to visit the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the National Assembly to actively promote major provincial tasks and priority projects so that they are reflected as much as possible in the government budget proposal, and to focus administrative efforts on securing national funds,” he said.
