KOSPI Closes Lower... Foreigners and Institutions Sell Together

On the 19th, the KOSPI closed lower due to simultaneous selling by foreigners and institutions.


On that day, the KOSPI ended the session at 2609.50, down 16.29 points (0.62%) from the previous trading day. Foreigners and individuals sold 359.4 billion KRW and 77.3 billion KRW worth of stocks, respectively. On the other hand, individuals bought stocks worth 429.5 billion KRW. The KOSPI index started the day lower and even dropped below 2600 during the session.


Among the top 10 companies by market capitalization on the KOSPI, all stocks except LG Chem (1.21%) and Kia (0.865%) closed lower. Samsung Electronics closed at 71,200 KRW, down 0.84% from the previous day. LG Energy Solution (-4.59%), SK Hynix (-3.45%), and Samsung SDI (-1.65%) experienced relatively larger declines.


The KOSDAQ closed at 888.61, up 0.66 points (0.07%). It started the session lower but showed mixed movements afterward. In the KOSDAQ market, foreigners and individuals also showed simultaneous selling, offloading 201.6 billion KRW and 11.7 billion KRW worth of stocks, respectively. Individuals had a net selling of 229.4 billion KRW.


The stock prices of the top market capitalization group in KOSDAQ were mixed. Ecopro BM (0.38%) and Ecopro (4.32%) closed higher. Meanwhile, Celltrion Healthcare (-1.67%), L&F (-3.02%), HLB (-3.10%), Celltrion Pharm (-2.40%), and Kakao Games (-3.54%) showed weakness.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate closed at 1282.0 won, up 10.1 won.
