Jeongeup City in Jeollabuk-do announced on the 19th that it has selected five outstanding public officials for proactive administration in the first half of 2023.
The city selects public officials every half-year who actively carry out their duties from the citizens' perspective, contributing to the establishment and spread of a culture of proactive administration within the public service.
The grand prize was awarded to Team Leader Oh Kyung-jae of the Future Industry Division.
Team Leader Oh preemptively identified a company operating in the 2nd Industrial Complex that planned to expand its factory to another local government area and successfully led the company to sign a lease contract to move into the local Railroad Agricultural and Industrial Complex.
Later, when the company wished to purchase land in the 2nd Industrial Complex instead of the Railroad Agricultural and Industrial Complex for facility integration, the city purchased the Railroad Agricultural and Industrial Complex land (excluding penalties) and achieved corporate agglomeration in the 2nd Industrial Complex site, which significantly helped the company reduce transportation and labor costs, earning recognition for this achievement.
The Excellence Award was given to two officials: Officer Son Yoo-kyung of the Agricultural Policy Division, who encouraged local companies to participate in bidding projects by identifying them in advance, thereby increasing local companies' bidding participation and success rates; and Team Leader Park Jong-deok of the Taxation Division, who sent notices specifying the entire city's overdue non-tax revenue when dispatching delinquent tax bills, making it easier for debtors to check their total outstanding amounts.
The Encouragement Award was given to two officials: Officer Jung Ha-neul of the Senior and Disabled Division, who promoted the digital transformation infrastructure project for ‘regular and non-face-to-face remote electrical safety inspections’ to prevent disasters in aging social welfare facilities; and Officer Wang Kyung-geun of the Audit Division, who is currently pursuing the refund procedure for overpaid value-added tax that public enterprises have long customarily claimed from local governments.
The city received nominations for outstanding public officials through each department and the city website and conducted the selection process accordingly.
The first round of evaluation consisted of a practical review by five team leaders (40%), an online employee vote (30%), and an online citizen vote (30%).
All selected outstanding public officials will receive incentives (performance bonuses at S grade and prize money).
One committee member who participated in the evaluation said, “We appreciate the efforts of public officials working hard to promote proactive administration,” adding, “I believe these efforts will be the foundation that makes Jeongeup City shine even brighter.”
Mayor Lee Hak-su stated, “Going forward, the city will actively carry out its duties in line with rapidly changing environments and from the citizens’ perspective,” and added, “We will do our utmost to accelerate the spread of a culture of proactive administration through rewards that match achievements.”
