Daejeon City to Purchase and Renovate 6 Vacant Houses This Year... "Transforming into Resident Convenience Facilities" Empty houses with no residents are maintaining a dilapidated appearance in downtown Daejeon. Starting this year, Daejeon City plans to purchase these vacant houses and utilize them as community convenience facilities. Provided by Daejeon City

On the 19th, Daejeon City announced that it will carry out the ‘Daejeon-style Vacant House Renovation Project’ by selecting and purchasing six vacant houses: one in Dong-gu, four in Jung-gu, and one in Daedeok-gu.

The project involves selecting vacant houses applied for by autonomous districts through a selection committee, purchasing the final target houses, and converting them into essential living infrastructure or community convenience facilities.

Most of the vacant houses selected this year are homes urgently requiring demolition (vacant house grade 4), and they are planned to be purchased in the second half of the year and developed into shared community spaces such as rest areas and parking lots.

Daejeon City plans to spend a total of 10 billion KRW (2 billion KRW annually) over five years until 2027, in cooperation with autonomous districts, to purchase and renovate vacant houses. The budget will be covered by 8 billion KRW from the city and 2 billion KRW from the districts.

A Daejeon City official stated, “We will renovate vacant houses left as eyesores in the urban area to create a safe and pleasant residential environment and expand the insufficient social infrastructure in the city center. As the project will continue until 2027, we hope for active interest and participation from vacant house owners.”
