Held at Asiad on the 19th at 2 PM
Declaration of Successful Hosting of the 'World Disabled Persons Conference'
Busan City will hold the ‘Happy City for Transportation Vulnerable People, Busan! Declaration and Duribal Delivery Ceremony’ at 2 p.m. on the 19th at the Asiad Auxiliary Stadium.
This delivery ceremony was prepared to hand over 25 additional Duribal vehicles to the entrusted operating agency (Busan Facilities Corporation) as part of Busan City's guarantee of mobility rights for transportation vulnerable people, to raise awareness of the need to secure mobility rights for the disabled and other transportation vulnerable groups, and to expand public consensus.
The event will be attended by about 50 people, including Byeong-yoon An, Deputy Mayor of Busan, Jinsu Park, Busan City Council member, In-ho Park, Acting Chairman of Busan Facilities Corporation, Chang-yong Jo, President of Busan Disabled People's Federation, Sang-hoon Bae, Chairman of Busan Public Transportation Citizens Fund, and citizens.
Busan City will symbolically hand over the keys of the new Duribal vehicles to Busan Facilities Corporation, and the Busan Public Transportation Citizens Fund will present a donation certificate (96 million KRW) to Busan City for the additional introduction of two Duribal vehicles. Then, the Busan Disabled People's Federation will present a plaque of appreciation to thank Busan City for its policy efforts to promote mobility rights for transportation vulnerable people and the Busan Public Transportation Citizens Fund for its donation, while requesting continued interest.
A declaration will be read to contribute to the promotion of human rights and social inclusion of persons with disabilities and to make every effort to support safe and convenient mobility for participants, so that the ‘2023 Busan World Disabled Persons’ Games’ scheduled to be held in Busan this August can be successfully hosted.
In particular, as the last order of the event, Deputy Mayor Byeong-yoon An and Acting Chairman In-ho Park of Busan Facilities Corporation will directly demonstrate their strong will to improve mobility rights for transportation vulnerable people by serving as ‘one-day managers’ helping disabled people board Duribal vehicles and by participating in test rides, thereby raising public interest.
Deputy Mayor Byeong-yoon An said, “With this additional vehicle introduction, the total number of Duribal vehicles in our city has reached 201,” and added, “Through today’s event, we will accelerate continuous vehicle expansion and replacement to ensure that transportation vulnerable people can move more safely and conveniently.”
Busan City has been gradually expanding Duribal, a special transportation means for supporting the mobility of disabled people who have difficulty using public transportation, achieving a total of about 298,000 trips (819 trips per day) in 2022.
