Gyeonggi Province and Gimpo City have made every effort to alleviate congestion on the Gimpo Gold Line by adding direct charter buses and opening bus-only lanes, resulting in an improvement in Gold Line congestion from 220% to 191%.
According to Gyeonggi Province, after announcing the "Special Measures to Alleviate Gimpo Gold Line Congestion" on April 18, the province and Gimpo City began operating additional direct buses on the alternative route, Bus No. 70, passing through major stations starting April 24, reducing the interval between buses from the current 15 minutes to 5 minutes.
Bus No. 70 is a route expected to serve as an alternative to the Gimpo Gold Line, starting from Geolpo Maru Park, passing through Geolpo Bukbyeon Station, Pungmu Station, Gochon Station, and Gaehwa Station, and ending at Gimpo Airport Station.
Additionally, starting from May 26, two new routes, 70C and 70D, each operating 12 times daily, began service in line with the opening of a 2.0 km curbside bus-only lane from Gaehwa Bridge to the Gimpo Airport Entrance Intersection in the Seoul section.
As a result, during the morning rush hour at Gimpo Airport Station, the number of passengers boarding the Gimpo Gold Line decreased from approximately 11,200 on April 10 to 10,000 on June 12, improving congestion from 220% to 191%.
Yoon Tae-wan, Director of the Bus Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Although the short-term measures have partially improved the congestion situation, we will continue to work with Gimpo City on detailed route adjustments to further reduce inconvenience for citizens."
