"Ugh, the Smell of Horse Manure"... British Royal Family's 'Scene Stealer' Prince Louis Holding His Nose

Prince William's youngest child, a 5-year-old boy among two sons and one daughter,
shows innocent behavior and a playful expression
Foreign media: "The funniest royal family member"

At the first official birthday event of King Charles III of the United Kingdom held on the 17th (local time), a 'scene-stealer' appeared who drew more attention than the main figure, King Charles III himself. It was Prince Louis, the youngest son of Prince William, the Prince of Wales, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, and the grandson of King Charles III.

Born in April 2018 and now 5 years old, Prince Louis is the youngest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, following his 9-year-old older brother Prince George and 8-year-old older sister Princess Charlotte. Whenever Prince Louis appears at official royal events, he captivates royal fans with his adorable and innocent childlike charm rather than as a prince.

At this event as well, Prince Louis did not disappoint people's expectations. King Charles III's birthday celebration began with the Trooping the Colour ceremony, a parade consisting of 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and over 400 military musicians, marching from Buckingham Palace.

King Charles III, Prince William, and King Charles III’s siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, rode horses during the parade, while Queen Camilla, Catherine, Princess of Wales, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis followed behind in carriages. While riding in the carriage, Prince Louis grimaced as if troubled by the smell of horse manure, pinching his nose with his fingers, and turned his body to stick his face out of the carriage to look at the spectators who had come to see him.

Prince Louis continued to amuse onlookers on the Buckingham Palace balcony. He clenched both fists and stretched his arms forward as if riding a motorcycle. He also put his index finger to his lips as if to hush the cheering crowd, and before leaving the event, he saluted the crowd.

Regarding this, the British BBC said, "Prince Louis is entertaining the crowd." Sky News also reported, "We could see various expressions of Prince Louis during the Trooping the Colour." The American Business Insider described Prince Louis as "the funniest royal family member at this event," adding that "in terms of popular playfulness, Prince Louis is the 'king.'"

Prince Louis first attracted attention for his rich expressions and candid emotional displays when he appeared in public for the first time in June 2019. In June 2019, he reached out his arms to be picked up by his father, then Prince William, but when his father did not immediately pick him up during the event, he frowned and pouted with a sulky expression.

While his older siblings maintain solemn expressions and dignified manners at official events that can be long and boring for a child, Prince Louis has repeatedly shown spontaneous behaviors such as suddenly standing up from his seat, making funny faces, and playing pranks. At the 70th anniversary of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne in June last year, he was seen sitting on his grandfather King Charles III’s lap watching the event, and during King Charles III’s coronation in May, he was caught yawning several times on camera.
