The ‘Gwangjin-gu Council Cultural Welfare Research Group (Representative Kim Sang-hee)’, a council research group of Gwangjin-gu Council (Chairman Chu Yoon-gu), visited representative cultural facilities and festival sites in Uijeongbu City on the 15th.

The ‘Gwangjin-gu Council Cultural Welfare Research Group’ was formed to analyze the current state of cultural welfare in Gwangjin-gu, derive a ‘Gwangjin-type cultural welfare model’, and provide high-quality culture.

The members are Kim Sang-hee (representative), Go Sang-soon (secretary), Chu Yoon-gu, Shin Jin-ho, Kim Sang-bae, and Choi Il-hwan.

This field visit was promoted to benchmark excellent cases by visiting representative cultural facilities and festival sites in Uijeongbu City and to apply them to cultural facilities within the region.

First, they visited art, music, and English libraries established in Uijeongbu City. Each library has established itself as a new landmark in the region leading culture and arts, going beyond the role of a public library. The members focused on the unique design that integrates art and space and facilities for the convenience of users, actively examining parts that can be applied to cultural facilities in Gwangjin-gu.

Next, they visited the Uijeongbu Music Theater Festival, which has been held 22 times since 2001. The Uijeongbu Music Theater Festival is a representative local festival that many visitors consistently attend. While exploring the festival, they also considered ways to develop a distinctive festival unique to Gwangjin-gu.

Representative Kim Sang-hee said, “It was a meaningful time to rethink the role of public goods. We also agreed on the importance of ‘expanding the experience of space’ by opening all spaces within the library to users,” adding, “Since Gwangjin-gu has sufficient infrastructure such as nature, culture, and education, it is necessary and entirely possible to transform spaces for a second brand mark. We will conduct meticulous and thorough research to derive a ‘Gwangjin-type cultural welfare model’ that reflects the characteristics of Gwangjin-gu.”

The ‘Gwangjin-gu Council Cultural Welfare Research Group’ will continue research activities to identify problems and improvements in local cultural facilities, analyze various successful cases, and help residents lead a richer life.
