20-Year Long-Term Employees Supported for Overseas Travel
Including 3,838 Employees Whose Trips Were Postponed Due to COVID-19
Support Criteria Increased from 800,000 to 1,000,000 Won
Hyundai Motor Company has decided to resume its long-term employee overseas travel program in the second half of this year. This program, part of employee welfare, had been suspended due to difficulties in overseas travel caused by COVID-19. Upon resuming, the company has increased the amount of financial support provided.
According to a company official, labor and management recently concluded practical discussions on this long-term overseas travel program. The company has selected employees who have worked for 20 years as long-term employees and has rewarded them with overseas travel and extended leave. Due to the difficulty of traveling abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company paid cash instead for the past three years.
This year, the eligible employees number 3,838, including those who had previously deferred their travel. Eligibility is applied on a semiannual basis according to the date of joining, and employees can travel after their 20th anniversary. In the second half of this year, employees who joined in 2002 are eligible.
The travel packages arranged by the company through travel agencies include destinations such as Vietnam (Da Nang, Nha Trang), Malaysia (Kota Kinabalu), Thailand (Bangkok, Pattaya, all 3 nights and 5 days), and Japan (Kyushu, 3 nights and 4 days). Additionally, those who wish can pay extra to travel to Okinawa or Saipan. The travel period is from September to November.
The company increased its support amount from 800,000 KRW to 1,000,000 KRW. The travel usage period, which was previously required to be within one year from the date of eligibility, has been extended to two years. Furthermore, transportation costs to the airport can also be reimbursed under business travel expenses.
Kia, an affiliate company, has a similar program for long-term employees. Kia’s labor and management have agreed in their collective agreement to provide overseas travel for employees with 20 years of service and those retiring. Like Hyundai, Kia has decided to resume the program this year after suspending it due to COVID-19.
