The police have demanded that executives of the Construction Workers' Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), who are accused of holding a 2-day, 1-night rally in downtown Seoul, appear for investigation by the 22nd.
On the 15th, the Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced that it had sent the 5th summons to Chairman Jang Ok-gi and Director of Organization and Dispute Jeon Byeong-seon, who are suspected of violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act, requiring them to appear by the 22nd.
Previously, the police had sent the 4th summons on the 8th, demanding their appearance by the day before. However, they stated that they would appear after the funeral of the late Yang Hoe-dong, a KCTU Construction Workers' Union member who self-immolated and died last month. The funeral is scheduled to be held as a labor and civic society funeral from the 17th to the 21st.
They held a general strike rally in downtown Seoul on the 16th and 17th of last month, urging an apology for Yang's self-immolation. The police have booked a total of 29 KCTU executives and others for violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act, citing reasons such as noise disturbance. On the 9th, the police conducted a search and seizure of the Construction Workers' Union office located in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
