Yangcheon-gu Mok4-dong Youth Reading Room Transforms into a 'Public Study Cafe' Yang Cheon-gu Mayor Lee Gi-jae is visiting the Mok 4-dong Youth Reading Room on the 12th for a preliminary inspection.

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gijae) announced that the aging Mok4-dong Youth Reading Room has been reorganized into a smart ‘Public Study Cafe’ preferred by youth and reopened from June 13.

The district, based on collaboration with the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation, established this reorganization plan without separate design services, saving about 10 million KRW in budget. The internal facilities located on the 1st to 3rd floors above ground cover an area of 434.2㎡ and newly include ▲52 individual seats ▲two 6-person group study rooms (12 seats) ▲small lecture room (12 seats) ▲two counseling rooms ▲and a resting area. In particular, a small lecture room for after-school classes was newly established, and the counseling rooms were expanded to two.

The individual seats feature various designs of concentrated and open types, with an artificial zelkova tree with plant interior placed in the center of the open reading seats to enhance comfort.

Additionally, bright-colored furniture, spacious desks, and bright lighting break away from the previously closed and stuffy image of the reading room.

The usage fee is 500 KRW per day, and once registered as a member at the unmanned kiosk, users can conveniently search for seats and make payments in real time. However, to encourage free interaction and communication among youth, the ‘Group Study Rooms’ are operated free of charge, with a daily usage time limited to 2 hours per team. Operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the facility is closed on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month and on legal holidays.

The district plans to also use this space for after-school reading discussion classes, customized mentoring in the ‘Seoul Learn’ program, and for academic and career counseling.

This year, the district is sequentially remodeling three aging youth reading rooms into study cafes. Starting with Sinwol1-dong Youth Reading Room in January, followed by Mok4-dong Youth Reading Room, and Sinjeong7-dong Youth Reading Room is scheduled for renovation in the second half of the year.
