2022 Broadcaster Financial Status Disclosure
Advertising Revenue Decreased to 3.083 Trillion Won Compared to Previous Year
Program Production Costs at 5.6098 Trillion Won
Last year, the total revenue of broadcasting operators increased by about 20 trillion won, but advertising revenue decreased by about 3 trillion won. Program production costs continued to rise, approaching 6 trillion won.
On the 13th, the Korea Communications Commission announced the '2022 Fiscal Year Broadcasting Operators' Financial Status' for 357 broadcasting operators including terrestrial broadcasters, pay TV, and PP. Total broadcasting business revenue increased by 511.8 billion won (2.6%) compared to 2021, reaching 19.9137 trillion won. IPTV revenue increased by 257.7 billion won to 4.8945 trillion won, terrestrial broadcasters increased by 166.9 billion won to 4.1551 trillion won, PP increased by 86.3 billion won to 7.6268 trillion won, satellite decreased by 15.2 billion won to 505.8 billion won, CP increased by 66.7 billion won to 923 billion won, and SO decreased by 50.5 billion won to 1.8037 trillion won.
In terms of broadcasting business revenue share, IPTV maintained first place with 24.6%. Terrestrial broadcasters (20.9%), general PP (19.7%), home shopping (18.6%), and SO (9.1%) followed. Except for the reversed ranking between home shopping PP and general PP, there was little change from 2021. Operating profit of broadcasting operators increased by 48.3 billion won compared to 2021, totaling 3.8182 trillion won. Program production costs increased by 366.1 billion won compared to 2021, totaling 5.6098 trillion won. Program production costs, which were 4.7896 trillion won in 2018, increased by nearly 1 trillion won in four years.
