Haenam-gun, Ddori Blueberry: Superfood in Taste and Size

Purple Antioxidant Superfood Blueberry Harvest Begins in Full Swing

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) announced on the 12th that it has officially begun harvesting antioxidant superfood blueberries.

Haenam blueberries grow under abundant sunlight and sea breeze, resulting in firm flesh and high sugar content, making them very popular among consumers.

Recently, they have attracted attention by successfully differentiating themselves from imported blueberries with their large fruit size and rich nutritional content as high-quality blueberries.

In particular, the mid-season blueberries currently being harvested are characterized by thick flesh and exceptional size, to the extent that consumers have nicknamed them ‘Ttoari Blueberry’ and ‘Hangari Blueberry.’

Ttoari (ttwari) refers to a round ring traditionally placed on the head to carry water jars, and the thickness of these blueberries is said to be as substantial as a ttoari, so regular customers call them Ttoari Blueberries.

The secret to producing high-quality blueberries lies in controlling the number of fruits to harvest only the finest, and managing crops healthily in a clean environment through organic early-stage cultivation.

Blueberries are considered a representative superfood rich in anthocyanins, dietary fiber, calcium, and other nutrients, offering excellent benefits such as antioxidant effects, immune system enhancement, and vision improvement.

Haenam blueberries can be purchased directly from farms or through local food markets, and on weekends, harvest experiences are offered to consumers, attracting visitors from all over the country.

A county official stated, “We have organized a blueberry research association for local farmers, established a production base for high-quality fruit production through eco-friendly cultivation, and developed and distributed superior varieties suited to regional characteristics. We continue to support strengthening competitiveness in response to the expanding blueberry market.”
