On the 12th, the Daesan Foundation announced the launch of the 'Foreign Literature Translation Support' project to directly understand and embrace outstanding overseas literary works and enrich the soil of Korean literature. Selected recipients will receive translation support funds ranging from 5 million to 12 million KRW.
Applicants are advised to select and translate works by referring to the 'Priority Translation Target Works List' prepared by the foundation. This list consists of works representing various language groups worldwide. Even if a work is not included in the recommended list, applications are possible if it is recognized as representative of the respective language group.
When applying, applicants must submit the translation support application form, translation plan, translation manuscript (30 pages of A4), and a copy of the original work corresponding to the translated section online. The application deadline is August 31st at 3 PM. The selection results will be announced on the foundation’s website and notified individually in December.
Completed translations will be published by Munhakgwa Jiseongsa as part of the 'Daesan World Literature Series.' Royalties will be paid separately from the translation support funds upon publication.
The 'Daesan World Literature Series' is based on the principles of first-time translation, direct translation, and complete translation in Korea. To date, a total of 159 titles have been published.
